Andris Sietins
Senior Travel & Nature Correspondent
americancichlids SIA
Aging shouldn't mean stepping back from nature. Every destination deserves to be experienced fully, whether you're walking easily or moving thoughtfully. That's what guides my work — making sure Latvia's most beautiful places are genuinely accessible to everyone.
Who is Andris?
Andris grew up in Riga with a deep love for Latvia's natural heritage. He spent his childhood exploring Mežaparks with his grandparents — an experience that later shaped his entire professional focus on accessible outdoor spaces. That's not just nostalgia talking. It's the foundation of everything he does now.
After completing his geography degree at the University of Latvia in 2009, he didn't go into typical tourism marketing. Instead, he became a regional correspondent, visiting hundreds of parks, gardens, and trails across the Baltics. He assessed their accessibility. He documented the practical details — parking, restrooms, gradient percentages — alongside the natural beauty.
His breakthrough came in 2015 when he published a comprehensive guide to senior-friendly hiking routes in Latvia. It became the reference standard for accessibility planning. Not because it was marketing fluff. Because it was honest, detailed, and actually useful to people who needed it.
What drives him is a simple question: "How can someone with limited mobility, reduced vision, or other age-related challenges still experience this place fully?" That question shapes every article, every recommendation, every destination guide he creates. He's not interested in token visits or watered-down experiences. He wants real adventures.
